Raymond T. Van Handle, 80, of Passaic died Thursday. Before retiring 22 years ago, he was a chemist for Raybestos-Manhattan Rubber Co., Passaic, where he worked for 33 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II [Radioman 1ST Class] and was a recipient of a Purple Heart.
He was a parishioner of St. Anthony R.C. Church, Passaic. He was a life member and past commander, editor, adjutant, service officer, and chaplain of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 1 and a member of American Legion Rosol-Dul Post 359, both i n Passaic. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Pavlick-Koster Post 2640, Wallington.
He was a member of Ham Radio Operators for 65 years and a member of First Operators Club, Old Old Timers Club, Quarter Century Wireless Association, Society of Wireless Pioneers, and American Radio Relay League. He was a former radio instructor at the University of Wisconsin.
Surviving are his wife, Viola Stopinski Van Handle; a son, Henry of Roxbury Township; a brother, Gilbert of Hickory, N.C.; a sister, Jane Patterson of Raleigh, N.C., and two grandsons.
Mass will be said Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, with burial in Crest Haven Memorial Park, Clifton. Visiting will be Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kamienski Funer al Home, Wallington.
