Bob, I am currently researching the QSL of 2CCD and found the QCWA page indicates that 2CCD was the first call of John A. Gioe, one of the founders of the club. 2CCD was actually his brother Peter V. Gioe. Peter was first licensed around 1920 then became 2EA.

I don't believe John had an early call. I could only find him having the call sign W2FD & W2CXI In 1930.

I can't figure out when Peter was born but he died at an early age (9/15/34). Maybe the club has more information?

Hi Brian,

John's entry in the 1953 QCWA Yearbook (see above) says he started as 2CCD in 1921 but the QSL clearly shows P. V. Gioe.

The entry was written 33 years later, memory sometimes isn't as good as it should be.

I hate to not display a QSL this old, so I added the caption, "John's brother Peter held 2CCD"

tnx es 73

I am guessing John used Peter's call (very common in those days).
Usually the QSL would list both names however or would be signed by the sibling stating 2nd Op.

Here is my 2CCD QSL

The 2CCD QSLs were filled out about a year apart and look to me like they were completed by two different people, confirming Brian's statement.
