First Call: W2GNZ
Isidore 'Irv' Seidman passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the age of 102.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Florence "Fagey" Seidman (néRosen); his daughters, Terry Heiman-Patterson and Sherry Reed; his grandchildren, Steven Reed, Rachel Patterson, Elizabeth Patterson, Justin Patterson and Ashley Reed; his great-grandson, Cole Reed; and a number of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Irv was born in New York City on October 22, 1914, to Jack and Rose Seidman, Polish immigrants. He was the oldest of five children, and his siblings knew him as "The Chief." Irv enjoyed a diverse and successful career as a civilian employee of the US Department of Defense, specializing in electronics and radio communications. During his tenure, he was stationed across Europe and the United States.
At his post in Fort Monmouth, he reconnected with his childhood friend, Fagey. They married in 1969, and Irv became a father to her two daughters, Terry and Sherry. He called his new family a "priceless gift." After retiring from government service, Irv and Fagey traveled extensively in the US and abroad. Irv found great joy in caring for his five grandchildren and often drove them to and from school, helped them with their homework and shared with them his love of ham radio. In 2011, he welcomed his first great-grandson, Cole.
Irv is remembered for his intellect and achievements, but above all, he is remembered as our "Pop." He loved his family generously and unconditionally.
Private services were held on January 29, 2017, at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapel. Interment followed at Beth Olam Memorial Park in Lakewood, NJ.
