Yates M. Hoag, 78, of 3 Fineview Dr., North Utica, died Monday, April 18, 1983 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center.
He was born in Vernon, son of Dwane and Elizabeth Maxwell Hoag. He graduated from Vernon High School, the RCA Institute and attended Mohawk Valley Community College. He married Helen Barker on November 26, 1927 at St. James Episcopal Church in Clinton. Mr. Hoag owned and operated Hoag Radio on South St. for many years. He also developed the system for background music, eventually selling his business to Muzac. He later joined General Electric Radio Review Dept., in Advanced Development Engineering and retired from there in 1969. Since retiring, the Hoag's have spent their winters in Clearwater, Fla.
Mr. Hoag was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church. He was a 50 year member of Sconondoa Lodge #814 F&AM, the Yahnundasis Bodies AASR and Ziyara Shrine Temple. He was a founder and life member of the Utica Amateur Radio Club, a member of AWA (Antique Wireless Assoc), the QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless Association) Gator Chapter, Clearwater Fla., and was a past member of the Audio Engineering Society.
Besides his wife, Helen of North Utica, he leaves three cousins, Mrs. Henry (Dorothy) Ford, Mrs, Ertman (Evelyn) Crouse and Mrs. Eunice Smith, all of Vernon.
The funeral will be Friday at the convenience of the family at the Stevens, Friedel & Williams Funeral Home, Inc., Oxford Rd., New Hartford with the Rev. Tim S. Hall officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon.
