Seymour C. 'Sy' Yuter Briarcliff Manor, NY QCWA # 4593 Chapter(s) 46 & 181 |
With profound sorrow I report the passing of Dr. Sy Yuter, W2NBT SK on 2 March at age 95.
Sy single-handily kept Chapters 181 (Hudson Valley) and 46 (Founders) going and acted as NCS for our 75M weekly net until a recent illness incapacitated him.
Sy was one of the earliest users of SSB during his service in WWII and his father was a maritime operator for Marconi Marine in the spark days.
Sy once told me that Chapter 46, which in fact was the first chapter organized by the QCWA founders should have been Chapter 1. The Chapter officers however, never got around to filing for a charter after the procedure was formalized - hence we wound up with number 46.
The few of us who remain in the chapter would love to see it reactivated.
When I replace my 75M antenna, I am hoping to restart the net along with another regular, N2OTG. The Ch 46 net is scheduled on 3917 at 0800 Eastern Sundays.
