William Frank Coulthart, at the age of 96, of 4922 Hill Road, Oneida, N.Y. 13421, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011.
He was born on Aug 24, 1915 in Watertown, NY, the son of William Frank Coulthart and Luella Austin Coulthart. He was a graduate of Oneida High School and furthered his education by taking courses in engineering, science, and management defense training programs conducted by Syracuse University. He married Norma Keller on Nov 10, 1935. The couple observed their 76th wedding anniversary.
William's lifetime interests included short wave radio and leisure time spent trout fishing. He was a member of the American Amateur Radio League with call letters W8FWY and W2PGU and the Oneida Amateur Radio Club with whom he served a term as president.
He was employed as a parts department manager at Keller Motor Co, Savage Arms Co as a radar technician and at Syracuse General Electric. He retired after 20 years as a civilian employee of the Department of the Air Force at the Verona Test Site.
William was a resident of Oneida for most of his life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving beside his wife, Norma at home; is one son, William H. Coulthart of Oneida; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Gertrude Pohl Coulthart of Hereford, Ariz., and two nieces, Ann Smeltzer of Michigan and Mary Vaccaro of Tucson, Ariz. He was pre-deceased by two sons, Laurence Coulthart in 1994; Stephen Coulthart in 2006; a brother, Robert Coulthart and a brother-in-law, Frank Keller.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Fiore Funeral Home, 303 Main Street, Oneida, N.Y. 13421 with the Rev. Colleen Preuninger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Oneida, N.Y., officiating. Burial will be made in the Verona Cemetery, Verona, N.Y. There will be no calling hours.
