Owego: Robert J. Vasilow, 83, Owego, NY, W2VDX, died December 1, 2013 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores (W2EWO).
Bob was an avid ham radio operator for 66 years. He designed and maintained the Tioga Amateur Repeater, and was very proud that all five of his children were licensed: Roberta (WB2JLM) Vasilow, Flint, MI; Elaine (WA2JFP)Buckthal and Seth Bruce, Barton, NY; Theodore (WN3F) and Pamela Vasilow, New Freedom, PA; Alicia (KB2VPV) Vasilow, Owego, NY; Christopher (N8RHA) and Michele Vasilow, Norwich, NY.
He is also survived by grandchildren Emma Buckthal, Stephen, Aaron, Demetrius and Colin Vasilow and a sister Jeanne V. Oles.
Bob was an engineer at IBM for 35 years, retiring in 1990 and starting a second career as a fire investigator for Peter Vallas Associates. Bob was a member of the Owego Fire Police, served as department secretary, and fixer of broken radios. He was a veteran of the Korean War in the US Army.
The family wishes to thank the 4th floor staff at Elderwood in Waverly and the staff of Robert Packer Hospital for their care of "RJ".
