Robert O. Zecher-W2YIK, of "The Valley", died Saturday November 26th at Loretto. A native of Plainfield, NJ , he lived in Syracuse for 50 years. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Zecher retired as an Engineer from General Electric in 1983 following 43 years of service. He was a longtime Ham Radio Operator (W2YIK), a member of RAGS and ARMS and was active in the establishment of WMHR. He was a member and Vestryman of St. Andrews in The Valley. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hiking and camping. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Helen Eaton; two daughters, Freda (Bruce) Zecher-Tropp of Buffalo and Mercy (Scott) Dawson of Webster; one brother, George E. Zecher of Westfield, MA; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday, 12 noon at St. Andrew's in The Valley, 5013 S. Salina Street, Syracuse. A Private burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse.
