Chapter 126
|
My station is located in Marvin, North Carolina. Marvin is a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina. I am running 100W into an OCF dipole at 35 feet or into one of my three attic dipoles. I also have a G5RV mini for 10-40M and mono band 15M and 17M dipoles in the attic.
My main rig is a FlexRadio 6300.
I mostly operate CW, but I also like RTTY, BPSK31, JT65 and JT9.
I was first licensed as KA8BFQ (Novice) back in 1978 and then as N8AQB (General). I was KB8JH (Advanced) for 30+ years until I became W3CL (Extra) in 2014. My respects to the friends and families of Harry Stein and Carl Lagoda who were W3CL before me.
My first station was a Heathkit DX-20 (with a 7.042MHz Crystal) and a Hallicrafters SX-101A receiver. This was my dad's old station which I found in the basement. I also found his Johnson Matchbox which I put to use. It wasn't long before I upgraded to a DX-40 transmitter and a Drake 2B receiver. I used that station for about a year. My 3rd station was the Kenwood TS-820 which was a real nice transceiver in 1979. I still have the TS-820 and I use it from time to time. Before getting the Flexradio I purchased and refurbished a Kenwood TS-830. I like the 830's receiver, but I got tired to tuning the transmitter (6146 finals). It was time to get a new rig.
I am an Eagle Scout (1979) from Troop 1706 in Troy, MI. I was also active in Explorer Post 73 as a youth. I attended Michigan State University and while there I made a few contacts from the club station W8SH.
