Richard B. Quiggle, age 86, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at his home lovingly surrounded by his family. He was born March 4, 1927 in Renovo, Pa., son of the late Frank and Mary Quiggle. Richard graduated from Renovo High School and Williamsport Tech in 1945.
At the age of 17 he joined the Merchant Marine and became a radio operator on a Liberty Ship.
After his discharge he married the love of his life, Lois Anderson. Together they moved to Erie and started a family.
Richard worked at Bliley Electric for 37 years until his retirement in 1989.
He was a longtime member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School and coached youth basketball for many years. Dick enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, Penn State football and the Detroit Tigers.
What mattered most to him was his family, whom he loved dearly. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 65 years, Lois; four sons, Richard, David (Debra), Thomas (Sandra) and John (Gabi); 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren who always put a smile on his face; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Quiggle.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc, East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church on Saturday at 2 pm conducted by Rev. Richard Schultz. Private interment will be held at North Bend Cemetery, Renovo, PA.
