John Francis Bogusz of Sun City Center, Florida, died Saturday, June 16, 2018 at South Bay Hospital. He was 90 years old. John was born October 8, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late John Bogusz and the late Mary Bogusz (nee - Duljan). He was a proud alumnus of the 184th class of Central High School, graduated from Drexel University in 1951 with a B.S. in Engineering, and received a Masterâs of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959.
John served in the U.S. Army from 1946 . 1947 as a radio operator and repairmman in Camp Carson, Colorado. Following his army service and graduation from Drexel, he joined Fordâs Research Division as an engineer. During his long and distinguished career with Ford, he worked as a member of the Advanced Communications Laboratory in the Communications and Electronics Division, and later in Fordâs Microelectronics division. John is the author of numerous scientific papers and holds two patents for a signal-seeking receiver and a simulated high-Q inductor.
John was a man of many and varied interests. He loved swimming and was a Red Cross swimming instructor. He became an expert scuba diver and underwater photographer, often traveling to the Caribbean or to Hawaii, to visit his sister and brother-in-law there. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and for a time, led Boy Scout Troop 251 in Philadelphia. He was an amateur HAM radio operator and later in life, took up the organ, taking lessons and practicing diligently on his own Roland organ, a gift from his wife.
In 1975, John married his beloved wife, Angela (nee Kwasny) with whom he enjoyed many happy years in Philadelphia, Dearborn, Michigan and later, Sun City Center, Florida until her passing in 2007.
John was pre-deceased by his sister, Mary and her husband, Lee Dobison, and his brother, Edward and his wife Dorothy (nee Albert). John is survived by nieces and nephews, Edward J. Bogusz and John F. Bogusz, Dori and Michael Pavel, Ellen and Stephen Strange, Eugene and Patricia Smith, Arlene and Frank Merryfield, and Mary Roray. He is also survived by great nieces Alexandra Pavel and Sarah Strange, and great nephew Max Pavel, and many loving extended family members.
Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 9:30 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at the Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. His graveside service followed and military honors were rendered by the United States Army at 11:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, 1215 Super Highway, Langhorne, PA 19047.
Religious services were conducted by Father Ed Kuczynski, a longtime family friend.
