NORMAN ARNOLD HECK (Age 86)
Passed away on January 12, 2012 from kidney failure and complications of pneumonia. He lived at Tall Oaks of Reston, Virginia for six years. Mr. Heck was a Space Systems Communications Engineer and spent a 35 year career with IBM. He also managed an IBM project for Air Force Headquarters in Wiesbaden, Germany for three years. When he returned to the United States he worked at IBM sites in Gaithersburg, MD and Rosslyn, VA.
Mr. Heck was born in Meriden, CT on October 18, 1925. He spent three years in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Heck received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and his Master's degree from Cornell University. He was a licensed amateur radio ham, an avid fan of model railroading, a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York, and he loved music and linguistics. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and a member of Kenwood Country Club for 30 years. After retirement from IBM, he became a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and went "crewing on the Potomac". Norman was considered a true gentleman by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores B. Heck of Leesburg, VA; his son, Bradford Heck and daughter-in-law, Lisa of Colesville, MD; his daughter, Michelle Heck of Reston, VA; three grandchildren, Grayson, Jordan Leigh and Dashiell; and a brother, Robert of Squaw Valley, California.
A private memorial service was held for the family. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
