Born in 1939 in southeastern Kentucky, my parents moved to southwestern Michigan in 1952. My first callsign was KN8BGY assigned in May 1956. I joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation from high school in 1957 and retired from the navy in 1976. I held the call K8BGY for 20 years.
Upon retiring from the navy, I made my home in Maryland and applied for a new call sign. I received the call W3IKO in 1976 and held that call for 20 years. After retiring from the U.S. Navy a second time, this time as a civil servant in 1994, I moved to Florida. I applied for and received the vanity call sign W4CJ in 1997. While serving in the USN, I held the call signs KM6CY on Midway Island (1961-1963) and KA2CJ while living in Yokohama, Japan (1963-1965.) In May 2006 moved to Knoxville, TN.
