My interest in amateur radio was ignited by W9OM - John Prentiss (SK) when I visited his home with my parents in 1952. John took me to his basement ham shack and I was immediately attracted to the lights, meters, sounds, smell of heated vacuum tubes and the generally acceptable atmosphere that is ham radio. I was sent home with a surplus russian tank radio set with which I could listen to portions of the ham bands. I soon became KNØJJF in Minnesota. When I moved to Virginia I became WA4CLK and later W4CLK. I have served as president of the Fort Belvoir Amateur Radio Club and as president of QCWA Chapter 91. February 1, 2016 |
