Donald Leo Bartnik, age 83, entered into rest on August 12, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he had lived in Tallahassee for 43 years. Mr. Bartnik served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Saratoga and later retired from the State of Florida having worked with the Lottery Division.
Don Bartnik was well known as an Amateur Radio enthusiast. As a longtime member of Tallahassee Amateur Radio Society, Don (W4DSW) is a past recipient of the Tars and Feathers Award, presented annually to the TARS member who has done the most that year for the chapter and the amateur radio family in general. Don will be remembered as a kindhearted friend to many in TARS and the amateur radio community.
Mr. Bartnik was preceded in death by his children James Edward Bartnik, Diane Lenore Bartnik and Cheryl Tomlin. Survivors include his daughter Dara M. Yeh of Virginia Beach, VA and her mother Violet Musgrave of Monroeville, PA; son Leo A Bartnik of Tigard, OR and his mother Alice Fleming of Naples, FL; nine grandchildren; sister Susan Chmielewski of Brooklyn, MI; brother Charles 'Chuck'Bartnik of Garrison, NY.
Private family services will be held at a later time in New York. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee FL 32308.
