Evans, GA - Entered into rest Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Doctors Hospital, Mr. Randolph E. Randy Watkins, Jr., 82, husband of 61years to Mrs. Audrey B. Watkins. Mr. Watkins attended the Academy of Richmond County, Boys Catholic High, Junior College of Augusta, Gulf Radio School and the Augusta Center of University of Georgia. He was a certified professional broadcast engineer, Certified 1st. class engineer, had his lifetime general radiotelephone license with radar endorsement, and a 2nd class radiotelegraph license with call sign W4KL. Mr. Watkins was an Area Engineer at the Savannah River Plant, was Retired Past President/CEO of R.E. Watkins General Contractors, Inc., President/CEO of WMTZ FM, Inc., past president of the Amateur Radio Club of Augusta, past president of the Augusta Shrine Club, and was past president of the Augusta Contractors Association. He served on numerous boards including the Metropolitan State Bank, Georgia State Bank (one of the original founders), Georgia Railroad Bank and Trust, First Union Bank, the Augusta Preparatory School, and the American Red Cross. He was Committee Chairman for both the Augusta Futurity and the National Barrel Horse Association. Mr. Watkins was also a member of the Masonic Order, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Alee Shrine Temple, American Radio Relay League, Quarter Century Wireless Association, Country Music Association, Society of Broadcast Engineers, National Association of Radio, and the Telecommunication Engineers. He also served in the Korean War. Family members in addition to his wife include son, R.E. Randy Watkins, III and his wife Beth, daughter: Audrey W. Fryer and her husband Dale, grandsons: Randy Watkins IV and Chris Watkins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Watkins, Sr., and sister, Eleanor Watkins Duffie. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. David Key officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
