Lawrence J. "Larry" Jones, DDS, 93, of Palatka passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka following a brief illness.
Larry was born in Hamilton, Ohio and had been a resident of Palatka for the past 27 years, coming from Ft. Myers.
In 1944 he graduated from the College of Dentistry at the Ohio State University. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He operated his dentist practice from 1946 until 1988 in Ft. Myers. He was a member of the Fort Myers City Council for Ward 3 from November 4, 1980 until November 6, 1984.
He was a former member and Past President of the Ft. Myers Rotary Club. He was a former member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Ft. Myers where he was a Past State Deputy in the Knights of Columbus.
He had been a resident of Palatka for the past 27 years, coming from Fort Myers. He was a member of the St. Monica Catholic Church in Palatka and was a former member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Palatka.
Larry enjoyed taking care of his yard, and remodeling his home and those of others.
He had been a ham radio operator for the past 70 years and his call letters were W4KPO. He also enjoyed flying and had been a private pilot.
He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Preceding him in death was his wife of 68 years, Bevolyn Morgan Jones.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Jana Jones of Ft. Myers, Tim and Tena Jones of Ft. Myers, and Larry and Sandy Jones of Orange City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lyn and Roger Stice of West Palm Beach, and Joelee and Tim Powell of Palatka; six grandchildren and spouses, Bryan P. and Cheryl Jones, Trevor and Leah Pease, Mason Jones, Lauren L. Stice, Roger and Beverly Stice, and Christina N. Stice; and three great grandchildren, Brittni Jones, Aubrey Jones and Ace Jones.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2015 at the St. Monica Catholic Church in Palatka with Father Amar Nath Nagothu MSFS officiating. A committal with military honors in the Palatka Memorial Gardens will follow.
