John Minor Lile, 81, died Friday, July 23, 2004 in St. Augustine, Florida. After a long career as a mechanical engineer, primarily in the pulp and paper industry, he retired as Vice President of Rust Engineering Company in Birmingham, Alabama. An Army Air Corps Captain and B-24 pilot, he flew 52 missions with the Eight Air Force during WWII and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Survived by son John of Savannah; daughter Susan Solomon, son -in-law Jay Solomon and granddaughter, Sharon Solomon of Atlanta; brother Thomas, of Mandeville, Louisiana; sister Virginia Beck of Birmingham, Alabama; and long term special friend Nancy Skaliy of St. Augustine. A memorial service will take place 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Glenmoor Retirement Community in Crichton Hall. Graveside services and burial beside his wife of 48 years, Mary Wallace Lile will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Isle of Hope, Savannah.
