Vernon Nesmith, 90, of Awendaw, South Carolina, husband of Miriam S. Nesmith died Sunday, September 30, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 4, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the Mount Pleasant Chapel, Thursday from 12:30 until time of the service.
Vernon was born December 23, 1927 in Bullock County, Georgia, son of Loren Franklin Nesmith and the late Mazell Barrows Nesmith. He served in the United States Army and the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, as a radio operator on a B-29 bomber, flying over 30 missions. Vernon retired from Burroughs Corporation as a service technician and enjoyed operating his Ham Radio for over 50 years. He attended Sullivan's Island Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam S. Nesmith of Awendaw, SC; sisters, Carolyn Flack, Bainbridge Island, WA and Linda Collins (Carl Lee) of Reidsville, GA; brother, Franklin Nesmith (Judy) of Reidsville, GA; nieces, Barbara R. Walters (Johnnie) of Greenville, SC and Lynn Hillyer of Greenville, SC and many grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Harry Radcliffe.
