NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Mr. Charles N. Wright, 84 W4PED, QCWA 9471, North Augusta, SC, entered into rest June 21, 2010 Interment in Pineview Memorial Park with Veterans Honors rendered by the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71.
Mr. Wright was a native of Lynchburg, Virginia, having made North Augusta his home for the past 58 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a life member of the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71. A U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, he served in the India-Burma theater.
He was a graduate of Lynchburg College with a degree in Chemistry and Math. Upon graduation, he was awarded a graduate fellowship to Vanderbilt University by the Atomic Energy Commission where he received his Masters in Physics and Electronics.
Mr. Wright retired as a Health Physicist with the E.I. DuPont Company at the Savannah River Plant after 34 years of service. He specialized in the field of Health Physics and was responsible for the design and production of many of the radiation measuring instruments used at SRP during its early operation as well as many techniques for monitoring personnel radiation exposure.
An author of numerous published scientific papers, Mr. Wright was nationally recognized as an expert in these fields.
He was a founding member of the National Health Physics Society and a Fellow of the Savannah River Chapter of the Health Physics Society. A long-time Amateur Radio Operator, and was a founding member of QCWA, SC chapter 89 and North Augusta-Belvedere Radio Club, an active member of the American Radio Relay League.
