H. Walter Johnston passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the age of 86.
Walt was born in Uhrichsville, Ohio and was raised in St. Petersburg, FL. He moved to Gainesville in the 1950s and worked at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. He was a proud and active member of The Gainesville Amateur Radio Association and had many contacts throughout Florida, the U.S., and the world under the call letters W4TKE. He made many lifelong friends through this organization. Walt was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Walt enjoyed tinkering with electronics, traveling, watching sports (especially the Gators) and spending time with family.
Walt was predeceased by his wife Linda and son Rodney. He is survived by his sons Walter Johnston (Cookie), Terry Johnston, Jeff Branch (Beth), and Brad Branch (Jaqui). His legacy will live on in the lives of his grandchildren Jessica, Tyler, Chase, Nat, Abbey, Lila, Josh and Abby. He will also be missed by his six great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Walt's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Pomodoro Cafe located at 9200 NW 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL. Friends are invited to come share their memories of a fine man. W4TKE Clear.
