William "Bill" Alexander Owen, 83, of Bristol, TN, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Creston Owen Sr and Josephine Carpenter Owen; brother, Roy C. Owen Jr; sister, Peggy Jo Meinhart; and nephews, Creston Martin Owen and Ernest Owen. William was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.
He was a 1953 graduate of Webb School and a 1957 graduate of Case Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering. William was a US Navy veteran where he served as a pilot completing 125 missions on the Early Warming Aircraft Barrier between Argentia, New Foundland and the Azores, also at Iceland.
He was owner and CEO of Owen Equipment Company, formerly Refrigeration Equipment Company, and was the third generation since his grandfather began the business in 1907.
William was an honorary 33rd degree Mason Knight York Cross of KYCH in Cleveland, OH and was a member of York Lodge #12. He was a past Master of Shelby Lodge #162, past High Priest of E.H. Gill #50, and past Commander of Johnson Commandry #14.
He was a ham radio operator and instructor since 1952 with the call sign W4VS.
He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Naomi Boggs Owen; daughter, Susan R. Owen Rohner; son, Kelly R. Owen; daughter, Stella Jean Owen Chasin and husband, Geoff; stepson, Brian Cole and wife, April; grandchildren, Alex Fox and wife, Danielle, Nancy Elliott and husband, Daniel, Isla Claire Chasin, Leslie, Jenna and Logan; four great grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Airport Christian Church in Blountville, TN. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor John Autrey and the Rev. Jim Carpenter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
