H.B. Overton Sr, 95, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013. A Huntsville native, H.B. Overton was born to Otey Oscar Overton, Sr and Sue Miller Overton. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Martha Jane Ellis Overton; his parents; brother, Otey Oscar Overton, Jr.; sister, Evelyn Overton Batt and son-in-law, Jim O'Brien.
H.B. was involved in Amateur radio for over 60 years and was known by other Hams as W4WOF. He was retired from GTE and had previously worked at Rohm and Haas and Van Valkenburg Bros.
Survivors include five children, H.B. Overton, Jr., Martha O´Brien, Ellis ´Pete´ Overton, Gloria Stevens (Sidney), and Betty Brady (Robert); eight grandchildren, Douglas Ray Bachuss, Jr. (Jenny), Melanie Bachuss Rabb (Mike), Lisa Brady Griffin (Joseph), Roger Lee Overton (Wendy), Joseph Bachuss (Beth), Kellie O´Brien Sartain (Johnny), Robert Brady, Jr. (Alicia) and Sean Brady; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Maple Hill Cemetery with grandson, Douglas Bachuss, Jr. officiating.
