Robert Eugene Chapman Sr., 89, of Waco passed away Friday, Jan 13, 2012, in Waco. Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 11, at Waco Memorial Park with Rev Carroll Hambrick officiating. Military honors will follow. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Connally-Compton Funeral Directors of Waco.
Robert was born in Sigourney, IA, and attended school in Santa Clair, OR. He married Dempsey Whitlow on Aug 1, 1942 in Abilene, Texas. He served in the United States Army during World War II. His usual occupation was as a radio repairman. He was employed with Waco Communications and Katy MKT Railroad. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Amateur Radio Club, Quarter Century Club W5BHX, and Beverly Hills Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen Sue Chapman; a brother; and a sister.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Dempsey, of Waco; son, Robert E. Chapman Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Hewitt; granddaughters, Amanda Sutherland and her husband, Richard, of Vancouver, WA, and Amy Chapman, of Waco; great-grandchildren, Ethan Chapman and Ella Sutherland; sisters Bessie Jones and her husband, Dick, of Monroe, OR and Earlene "Gay" Dunbar, of Marietta, OH; and many other family members and friends.
