Native Houstonian, loving father and husband, WILLIAM E. (BILLY) BREMER, JR., passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2003. He was born on January 10, 1919, the only child of the late William E. Bremer and Marie Swinford.
He grew up in the Montrose area of Houston and attended Lanier Middle School. After graduating from San Jacinto High School in 1936, he studied at Rice University, graduating in 1941 with a degree in Business Administration.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, then joined Foley's where he was an executive for many years.
From Foley's he went to work for the City of Houston in radio communications for the Public Works Department.
As a boy growing up in the 1920's, he was fascinated by radio electronics, and spent many hours building crystal radios and other electronic projects in his garage. At age 14, he received his amateur radio operator's license (W5EKP) and was active in the Houston Amateur Radio Club for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother, Julia Tuffly Swinford; his aunt, Christine Liverman; and his close cousin, Mark J. Liverman.
He is survived by his devoted wife of over 61 years, Carolyn Sturdivant Bremer; daughters, Julia Bremer Baskett of Palo Alto, California, and Carol Bremer and her husband Philip Gamblin of Houston; son, William W. Bremer and his wife Patricia Schwab of Houston; five granddaughters, Celeste Baskett of Portland, Oregon, Pamela and Laura Bremer of Houston, and Rachel and Sarah Gamblin of Houston; niece, Ellen Hart and her husband Jack of Houston; great-niece, Heather H. Westerlage and her husband Aristotle Westerlage of Houston; cousins, Marie Liverman and her family of Houston, Claire and Steve Stevenson of San Antonio and their two sons, Christopher and his wife Shonda, and Trevor Stevenson.
Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Earthman Bellaire Chapel, 6700 Ferris. Funeral Services and Interment will be private.
