Bennie Lurline Stewart portland, tx Bennie Lurline Vickery Stewart passed away October 19, 2013 at the age of 101. She was born September 13, 1912 to Lillie Mae and Dennis Vickery in Kenedy, Texas and was one of 10 children. She married John Butler Stewart on May 31, 1930 in Dallas and they enjoyed 71 years of marriage until John preceded her in death in 2001. She and John raised their family in Sinton while working for Plymouth Oil Company. They moved to Houston in 1961 to continue their careers and lived there until retiring and moving to Portland to be near their family. During her retirement, Bennie enjoyed spending time as a real estate agent, amateur radio operator, and traveling. She is survived by her son, Bennie Lowell Stewart and wife Estella; daughter Anita Stewart Gilbreath and husband Robert all of Portland, Texas; granddaughter Lavonne Stewart Garrison and husband David of San Antonio, Texas; grandson John Marlin Gilbreath of San Angelo, Texas; and a sister, Sibyl McDonald of Corpus Christi, Texas.Family will receive friends Monday, October 21, 2013, 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton, Texas. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2013, 11:00 AM at Kenedy Cemetery in Kenedy, Texas. Burial will follow in Kenedy Cemetery.
