Memorial service for MAJ (ret) Arthur "Art" Albert Farrington, 95, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Boulevard Congregation Christian Church with Dr. Ralph Alexander, officiating.
MAJ (ret) Farrington passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at his home after a long illness.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
A private family burial will be held at Post Cemetery.
Art was born on February 8, 1919 to Arthur A. and Grace (McMain) Farrington in Citronelle, Alabama. Much of his childhood was spent in Louisiana. At the age of 16 he became a licensed amateur Radio Operator. He married Hazel Sarah Kimball in 1942. He served in Salzburg, Austria in Radio Communications. He spent a tour in Japan. Art retired from the United States Army in 1961 after 22 years of honorable service to his country. He later married Flo Miller in 2005.
He invested much effort into Masonic activities. he completed his 33 degree in Scottish Rite, all positions of York Rites as well as serving as Worshipful Master and Secretary of Masonic Lodge #183 AF & AM. and member of India Temple. He started a local group of Shrine Santa Clauses. In 36 years the Shrine Santa Unit have netted over $250,00.00 for the benefit of Shrine Crippled Children. Art was also a member of NTL Sojourners, Elks, MOWW, Eastern Star #82, and Blvd. Congregational Christian Church. Art loved being Santa for the children.
He is survived by his wife, Flo, of the home; two daughters, Alice Farrington Bernhard and her husband, Bill, Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky, and Linda Louise Farrington, of Lawton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Sarah Bernhard Shrout, of Seattle, Washington, Wilhelm K. Bernhard, III of Easley, South Carolina, and Anna Bernhard Carson, of Seattle, Washington; his step sons, Carl Miller, of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Chuck Miller, of Seattle, Washington; 13 great grandchildren.
Mr. Farrington was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 61 years, Hazel, his sons, Charles David Farrington, and Arthur Albert Farrington.
