John R. "Jack" Whitaker Jr.
He was owner-operator of Photographic Associates and a retired employee of Dyer and Moody Consulting Engineers with 19 years of service.
A resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at West Feliciana Parish Hospital.
He was 85, a US Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a captain in the Marine Corps Reserve.
Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St, on Monday, Nov 19, from 5 p.m. until chapel service at 7 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Chris Andrews. Interment will be at a later date.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan W. Gill, of Albany and Meriget W. Voss, of Baton Rouge; two sons, Walter A. Whitaker and John M. Whitaker, M.D., both of Baton Rouge; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amalia Yglesias Whitaker.
He was a founding member of the Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club and active in amateur radio for 70 years. He was a life member of the American Radio League for a quarter century, a member of the Wireless Club, the Old Old Timers Club, the Single Action Shooting Society and a life member of the National Rifle Association.
