Travis Duell Flatt, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.
Travis was born in Mount Pleasant, TX on July 19, 1919.
Travis was raised on a cotton and peanut farm near De Leon, TX. Travis knew hard work and dedication to family Christian values during those Depression era days.
Early he learned a love for radio electronics and graduated from Port Arthur College as a Radio Engineer. Travis worked his way through college and took a job with the Texas Broadcasting System, and was the Engineer that built KBST, KBWD and KHØB.
Travis met and married his wife, Eunice Harrison. They were married on November 11, 1939 and have been married for 77 years.
Travis proudly served in the United States Navy in World War II and was wounded at the Battle of Okinawa. Travis retired in 1976 with 37 years Federal Service with the Navy Department, The Civil Aeronautics Administration and the US Weather Bureau.
Travis was a Master Gardener and shared these skills with many. Travis was active in his church and was an Amateur Radio "Ham." W5IXQ was his radio call sign. Travis was a strong Christian and active in many churches.
Travis leaves his wife, Eunice Harrison Flatt, two sons, Ronald D. Flatt and daughter-in-law, Marie of Mertzon, TX and Carl Dean Flatt and daughter-in-law, Ann of Midland Texas and he leaves behind five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Travis was preceded in death by his oldest son, Jerry O. Flatt.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Sandia Baptist Church, with Funeral Services to follow at 10:00 a.m., with Garland Peek officiating. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Dayton King, Jim Weir, Ron Sartain, Paul Losinski, Jim Porter and Bill Kendrick.
