John Junious Lewis (W5KKD) of Plano died Friday, March 29, 2013, at the age of 95. Private inurnment was in McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor.
Mr Lewis was born January 12, 1918, in Bluff Dale, Texas, the son of the late John Bolton and Lizzie (Franklin) Lewis where he was a 1936 graduate of North Plauxy High School.
During World War II, he served his country in the United States Navy from August 13, 1937 until his honorable discharge July 14, 1941.
On December 22, 1956, he married Mary Virginia Herring in McGregor.
For thirty-four years, he was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone in Beaumont as a Test Board Manager until his 1979 retirement.
A few years after his retirement, he moved to Waco in 1982, where he made his home. More recently, he moved to Plano in 2013.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in McGregor and enjoyed Ham Radio as his call letters were W5KKD, now a silent key.
With the advent of computers, they gave him great enjoyment as he played many games.
Also preceding him in death were a son, Donald Ray Lewis; two brothers, L.C. Lewis, H. C. Lewis and a sister, Bessie Lewis.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Virginia Lewis; two brothers, Ralph Lewis, Robert Lewis both of Fort Worth; four sisters, Oleta Davis and husband Dick of Fort Worth, Teresa Tolbert of Austin, Sarah Happel and husband Gene of Longview, Frances Pannell and husband Robert of Plano and his beloved cat K.C.
