MURRAY, Jerry Jerry Murray was born July 1, 1922 in Sherman, TX and passed away Aug. 17, 2020 at the age of 98. He was predeceased by his parents Jack H. and Elsie Mae Simmons Murray and his brother Jack H. Murray, Jr. and wife Helen. Jerry grew up in Commerce, TX where he graduated from Commerce High School and received his Bachelors and Master's Degrees from East Texas State Teachers College. He married Alta Wayne Gullion June 1, 1952. They were happily married for 68 years. Jerry taught school for forty years. His first teaching job was in McCamey, TX for seven years, then a short time in Jourdanton, TX. He began teaching at Crozier Tech in DISD midterm 1951 and taught there until the school closed in 1971. The remainder of his teaching was at T. J. Rusk Junior High where he also drove a school bus. He considered his students his "kids" and kept in touch with many of them as long as he lived. Jerry had many interests. He was an amateur radio operator with call W5KUP. He loved air planes, photography, fishing, and could fix most anything. Jerry built a lake house on Lake Texoma that was enjoyed by family and friends for many years. For several years he had a photography business and photographed many weddings in the Dallas area. He is survived by his wife Alta, a cousin Fred Davies and a former student Angel Perez and his family Sara, Joshua and Jael who he loved dearly. Jerry and Alta have been members of the Skillman Church of Christ since 1953. Memorials can be made to the Skillman Church, 3014 Skillman, Dallas, TX 75206. Service will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Friday, August 21 at 12:00 noon with visitation at 11:00 am. |
