Dossett Melvin Ledbetter, 83, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., in Amarillo, with Dale Moreland, associate pastor of The Church at Quail Creek, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.Mr. Ledbetter was born Jan. 3, 1925, in McLeansboro, Ill., to Dossett S. and Edith Ledbetter. He married the love of his life, Margie Neel, on May 16, 1942, in Jackson, Mo. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. It was while he was in the service that the family was transferred to the Amarillo Air Force Base. In 1966, he began a career with Pantex as the head of technical security that would last until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Ledbetter was very active with the HAM Radio Association, a hobby and passion he had held since his teenage years. Throughout his life, he sought to continue his education at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University. He was a pilot and a longtime member of San Jacinto Baptist Church, now The Church at Quail Creek. He and Margie moved from Amarillo to Waco in 2007 to be closer to family.Survivors include his wife, Margie Ledbetter; a daughter, Melody Lee and husband Mike of McGregor; a brother, Winston "Wink" Ledbetter of Indiana; a granddaughter, Kyndel Lee of Amarillo; additional loving family members and friends, Mike and Tommy Ledbetter of Indiana, Dennis Moss of Florida, Carl Digby, JoAnn Farrell, Woody Digby, Dwight Moss and Joe Ralph, June and Cliff Acord, all of Illinois, Chet Hintz of Montana, Jean Neel of Amarillo, Lesa Lemke of Dallas, Sherri Evans of Montrose, Colo., Barbara Moss and Scott Moss, both of Amarillo and Mark Moss of Colorado; and his oldest dear friend, retired judge C.E.
