A veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II, he eventually joined the FAA as a radio technician. He was licensed for more than 50 years as W5LVE. An Amateur Extra Class operator, he was a pioneer in mobile HF and VJF operations in San Antonio, Texas and was a regular voice heard on VHF to 160 meters. He helped construct one of the earliest VHF repeaters here. He was a very active Member of Chapter 38, and with his XYL, Frances "Gabbie" Bruemmer, W5KQG (SK) were chapter officers. Johnny and I co-authored a paper in CQ Magazine 1982, titled "How to Correctly Assemble Type N Connectors" The illustrations are of Johnny's hands doing the job. Johnny was one of my mentors over the years. I will always remember him as a most genial, generous and kind person. His key went silent on June 12, 2005.
