Joseph Traina, safe in the arms of our Lord, on Friday, February 4, 2011. Age 93, born in Labadieville, residing in New Orleans until 1960, Arabi for 45 years, and Azalea Estates Slidell since early 2006.
Beloved husband of 44 years to the late Luisa Deliteris Traina. Devoted father of Karen Walgamotte (John), Darryl Traina (Kathi), Gary Traina (April). Proud grandfather of Kevin Walgamotte (Belinda), Barry Walgamotte (Angelique), Kristy Walgamotte Solis (Daniel), Todd Traina (Pam), Terry Traina (Kelly), Troy Traina (Ginelle), Natalee Miller, Jeremy Boone (Amanda), Joshua Traina, and Jason Bardwell (Amy); and great-grandchildren, Tiffani, Kalyn, Alex, Lane, Kyle, Randy, Falyn, Luke, Levi, Stetson, Tyson, Devin, Hali, Ben, Jack, Maci, Mya, Zachary, and Baby Solis. Also survived by sister-in-law, Dorothy Traina (Angelo), and brother-in-law, Vincent Gerace (Rosina Deliteris), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Traina, his parents, Alphonse Traina and Angelina Liseo Traina; step-mother, Virginia Siragusa Traina; sisters, Marie T. Pullaro, Josephine T. Poter, Jenny T. Mancuso, Frances T. DeGeorge, Virginia T. Demarest, and Catherine T. Saia; and brothers, Anthony, Louis, Angelo, and Alphonse (Pete) Traina. Loving companion for twenty years to the late Lillian Faust OâBrien.
Mr. Traina served as a Radioman 3rd Class in the US Coast Guard and US Navy during World War II. He was also an avid Ham Radio Operator for over 50 years, earning the call letters, W5HIC. He retired at the age of 72 from Hayes-Dockside, Inc, with over 30 years of service as a warehouse superintendent at the company's New Orleans and Arabi facilities.
Special thanks from our family to the administrators, staff, and residents of Azalea Estates of Slidell for the caring, love, support and friendship showered upon our Joseph for the past five years. The family extends sincerest thanks to Geraldine Morrison, MD, the nurses and 2nd floor staff at Ochsner Northshore Medical Center in Slidell for the compassionate care and kindness they extended to our father during his final days.
Relatives and friends of the family, including employees of Folgers Coffee Co, Flowers Baking Co, and Trinity Yachts, are invited to attend a funeral mass on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 1 pm, at the St. Bernard Memorial Gardens Chapel, 701 West Virtue Street, Chalmette, Louisiana.
Visitation begins at 10 am.
Burial immediately following the mass, St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
