John Goggin, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went peacefully from the arms of his loving family to the loving arms of his Lord on July 29, 2009 in a Tyler hospital. He was 81 years old and suffered a heart attack on July 4. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 21 at the Fellowship Bible Church of Dallas with Rev. Vincent E. Gaddis officiating. Burial took place in Rossville Cemetery in Oklahoma.
John was born in Lincoln County Oklahoma on January 19, 1928. He was the son of Roy and Gertrude Goggin. Mr. Goggin served in the United States Army during the Korean War [Korean Service Medal]. He graduated from Oklahoma University and Southern Methodist University with a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired in 1998 from Raytheon E-Systems.
Mr. Goggin was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Dallas. He was the former president of the Association of Old Crows and a member of the AARL. He was also a HAM radio operator with call letters W5ORM.
He competed in the Senior Olympics in pole vaulting, high jump, long jump 50 and 100 meter dash and was inducted into the Texas State Hall of Fame. He also loved to play the fiddle.
Mr. Goggin is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Georgia Goggin of Dallas, Texas; Son & Daughter-in-law, Dr. David Jon and Janet Goggin of Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia; Daughter and Son-in-law, Gina and Mike Shipman of Lindale, Texas; and 9 Grandchildren, Amanda Goggin, Holly Goggin, Noah Shipman, Sarah Shipman, Charity Shipman, Enoch Shipman, Elijah Shipman, Hezekiah Shipman, and Uriah Shipman.
