WILLARD SPENCER PURDY JR. - PORT LAVACA -Willard Spencer Purdy Jr., 73, of Port Lavaca, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997.He was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to the late Willard S. Sr. and Helen Hallock Purdy. He graduated from Verona, N.J. , High School and worked as a laboratory assistant for Celanese Corporation. He served in the U. S. Army/Air Force in 1942 and retired in may, 1965. He formerly worked for KTXN-FM in Victoria as a DJ and salesman, was a teacher at Devereaux School, Russell Office Equipment and in 1972, he purchased Calhoun County Office Supply. Mr. Purdy was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rotary International, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award, Port Lavaca Amateur Radio Club, South Texas Emergency Net, Quarter Century Wireless Association, Lavaca Lodge No. 36 AF&AM, St. John Commandery No. 101 in Victoria, Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Texas, awarded the Cross of Honor, Scottish Rite, AI Amm Shrine Club of Corpus Christi and received the Red Cross of Constantine Award from Texas Knights Templar and Golden Trowel.Survivors: wife, Lauretta Elizabeth Gilbert Purdy; daughters, Gwen Hall of Port Lavaca and Jewel Stary of Victoria; son, Steve Purdy of Corpus Christi; sister, Gladys Oliver of Georgetown, Del.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. today with family visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home chapel.Services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca, the Rev.
