Robert Murray Kirkland, 98, a longtime resident of White City on Platte Lake, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Munson Medical Center, in Traverse City. Born November 13, 1922, in Pemberville, Ohio, he was the son of Edwin S. and Virginia E. (Hoyman) Kirkland. Robert was a WWII Veteran who served in the Army and Navy. He was stationed in Canada and the Aleutian Islands in Alaska and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1950 and he received the Bronze Star. He was a longtime member of the Honor Congregational Church. He was a founding member of the Platte Lake Improvement Association and served for over twenty-two years. He worked as a Communications Technician for Delta Airlines until retiring. Robert was also a licensed Ham Radio operator whose call number was W5PVR.
