Chester "Chet" Leroy Rankin, 80, of Temple, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at Troy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wade Killough officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Closner Cemetery in West with Masonic Rites and Military Honors. Arrangements by Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Chet was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to the late Roy Douglas and Maude Elsie (Price) Rankin. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Chet married Edna Marie Williams on January 5, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas. He was a member of Masonic Lodge number 195 of Sayre, Oklahoma, the Amateur Radio Club since 1948, Troy United Methodist Church, the Lions Club and a lifetime member of Texas Lions Camp. Chet was a professor at Texas State Technical College in Waco, having retired in 1988 and was a Certified Flight Instructor and an EAA member. He was an enthusiastic hobbyist. Survivors include his wife, Edna, of Temple; son, Stephen L. Rankin, of West; daughters, Nancy Birdsell, of Troy, and Susan Neuburger, of Olathe, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Waco Tribune-Herald: 9/19/2006 |
