A memorial service was held for him on July 11, 2022 at the Prescott National Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona. John was a member of the Yavapai Amateur Radio Club, and in 2009 participated in its Board of Directors meetings. During that year at Field Day in June, he and his wife Barbara served as barbecue cooks. He was an active club member, and his enthusiasm and participation will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Barbara G. Gross, W5GBG.
