Billy Vernon "Bill" Gibson, 88, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014, as a result of complications suffered from a stroke. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2015, at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Funeral Home in Waco, Texas, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m., in the Itasca City Cemetery in Itasca, Texas. Bill proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii the day the war ended. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Itasca where he served as an Elder for several years. In 1968, he married Betty Ann Nuckols Mitchell. Bill was a well-respected businessman in Waco for many years. He owned and managed Bill Gibson's Jewelry Store until his retirement in 1994. He loved the jewelry business and was considered one of the most respected jewelers in the area. Bill will be remembered by his friends, customers and business associates for his integrity, generosity and love for those he served. He always greeted his customers with a smile and made certain they left his place of business a satisfied customer. He considered them not only his customers but also his friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann; son, Joe; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hermon Gibson. Survivors include his son, Steve Gibson and wife, Susan, of Belton; daughter-in-law, Jan Gibson, of Dallas; step-daughter, Elizabeth Mitchell, of Maine; grandchildren: Sarah Park and husband, Richard, Emily Faust and husband, Brandon, of Austin, Wesley Gibson, of Belton and Brian Gibson, of Arizona; step-grandsons, Denton Davies and Lesley and Damon Davies, of Dallas; great-granddaughter, Makena Park, of Austin; sister, Polly Adams and husband, Ken, of Kershaw, South Carolina; other relatives and many friends.
