Marvin was born December 24, 1911 to John and Edna Debrunner in Los Angeles, California. Marvin died at age 94 on September 10, 2006 in Paradise, California of natural causes. Marvin is predeceased by his older brother, Durwood, and younger sister Lorraine Tipton.
Marvin became an amateur radio operator (W6ATG) as a young man and at 16 took a summer job in Yellow Stone as a telegraph relay operator. Marvin even enjoyed a brief stint as a barn stormer pilot in the 1930s. Marvin enjoyed a very long career, beginning with cable cars, with the Los Angeles Rapid Transit District and retired as a bus driver on the South Bay Beach route in the mid 1970s. As a Los Angeles Sheriff Reserve Officer Marvin was key player in establishing Los Angeles County's first disaster communications system. Marvin and his wife, Grace who predeceased him in 1999, retired to Paradise in 1976. Together they belonged to many community groups and service organizations and assisted in founding the Paradise Senior Center. Interests also included gardening, genealogy, hobby trains, appliance repair and foremost, talking to people. Marvin is predeceased by his youngest son, Chris and is survived by his eldest son, Marvin, Jr., two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and one great grandson, all of Paradise.
While Marvin enjoyed the company of many "new" friends, during his lunches at the Senior Center, he sorely missed his "old" friends whom he had outlived; especially his beloved wife Grace and then in 2004, his son, Chris. Marvin was, as he said, "ready to go".
There will be an informal gravesite service on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Paradise Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Marvin's name to the Paradise Senior Center.
