Noel Condiff Edwards (W6IF) passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
The son of Noel Condiff Edwards Sr. and Constance Dorothy Edwards of Hollywood, Noel leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Martha Ann Edwards, two children, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Noel served his county as a chief petty officer in the United States Coast Guard, leaving the service in 1946 to join the FCC. Two years later he took a position with the U.S. Department of State where he completed three tours in the Middle East and The Mediterranean. Noel retired from the State Department in 1979, making a new home in the California hi-desert.
Licensed in 1936, Noel was a lifelong amateur and a lifetime member of the Morongo Basin amateur radio club. He was also a 36 year member/officer of the 29 Palms Lions Club.
Both he and Martha engaged in prodigious voluntarism throughout the hi-desert community, were hands-on members of the St Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal congregation and, in their spare time, traveled extensively, visiting friends and family across the United States.
He will be remembered for his devotion to amateur radio communication, his love of the hi-desert community of which he was part and his deep commitment to friends and family. Go with God, Noel.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at St Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 72348 Larrea Avenue in Twentynine Palms.
