John William Sherman May 24, 1921 - September 20, 2011. Full Military honors to be held Friday September 30, 2011 at 1:15 p.m. at the Bakersfield National Cemetery.
Col./ Dr. John William Sherman, born May 24, 1921. Optometrist - Fellow FO American Academy of Optometry, Pharmaceutical Agent Certification, Diplomat of The National Board of Optometry. Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired) - 27 years. Life credentials for all levels of education in California. Members of California Optometric Assoc, American Optometric Assoc and Phi Delta Kappa. Chairman-Division of engineering and technology at Foothill College. U.S. Army duties include large unit command, and schools command. He was a signal officer in the Army general staff college. He enjoyed the Bakersfield symphony orchestra and the Bakersfield Stars dinner theatre. He enjoyed many years of traveling, especially cruising.
He leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Colleen, daughter Margaret Isles and Son John w. Sherman Jr, stepson Andy Stenderup and wife Kim and stepson Fred Stenderup, plus numerous grandchildren and Great grandchildren.
