First Call: KB6BVO issued in 1983

When I was in high school I had a friend that introduced me to ham radio. Martin was WN6MVT and had a Viking Ranger crystal transmitter and a National or Trio receiver. I was instantly fascinated and started as an SWL. By time I was in college other things took my time and interest but I finally got my license in 1984, back when you had to go to FCC for a test! Licensed as KB6BVO, my first rigs were used Drakes (WHY didn't I keep them!) I eventually upgraded and took W6MVT to honor my "elmer" who passed SK while I as in college.

Was very close to WAS but then came kids and work and everything else that happens. I was away from the hobby for decades and recently became active again. Why didn't I wait for the next eleven year sun cycle peak? It's still fun to make a contact, even a short one.

Current rig is an ICOM 706 Mk II G (no amp) feeding various end-feds and dipoles in a very HOA restricted yard. (Even NVIS can be fun.) Even tried an Isotron 20. When in the RV I somtimes use an SGC 2020 which is a great little rig.

I love to QSL direct with paper cards like the old guy that I am. Heck, I still keep a paper log too.

Thank you Martin for showing me a great hobby.
