HOOVER III, Herbert (Pete) Nov. 5, 1927 - Feb. 4, 2010 Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Adventurer, benefactor and mentor to countless others. "Pete" Hoover died peacefully with his family by his side. A man who truly believed in living life to its fullest.
He was blessed to have his beloved wife, Meredith by his side for 61 years of traveling as well as hours of volunteer service together with The American Red Cross. A man of great intelligence and wisdom, he was involved with many organizations as a consulting director. He was a man whose presence could engage an entire audience or relate to individuals on a one to one basis.
He will be deeply missed and will always be remembered by his wife Meredith, (son) Stephen Hoover, (daughter) Leslie Hoover-Lauble (Todd), grandchildren, Jennifer Mosebach (Benjamin), Stephen H. Marsh and Hagen D. Lauble and great grandson Jackson B Mosebach; and so many others whose lives he touched during his life. A memorial service is planned for the future.

Herbert 'Pete' Hoover III, W6ZH (ex-W6APW) -- the grandson of Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States, and the son of former IARU and ARRL President Herbert Hoover Jr, W6ZH (SK) -- passed away February 4, 2010.
He was 82. A resident of San Marino, California, Hoover was active in ARRL activities, serving as a Director of the ARRL Foundation in 1976 and as a member of the ARRL Long Range Planning Committee from 1978-1981. In the 1970s, Hoover and EIMAC's Bill Eitel, W6UF (SK) established a matching fund to encourage contributions to the amateur satellite program. Hoover served as Vice President and Trustee of the Pasadena (California) Radio Club and was also a member of the Southern California DX Club. In 1978, Hoover was elected to the National Red Cross (later the American Red Cross) Board of Governors. A memorial service is being planned.
