James William Bostwick passed away July 3, 2012 in Pendleton at the age of 97. He was surrounded by many family members.
James William Bostwick was born March 18, l915 in Freewater, Oregon to Alton Bostwick and Julia Means Bostwick. He spent his early years working and packing fruit in the Freewater and Wenatachee areas. Jim had a real passion for the radio field so he attended Radio Broadcasting School in Portland. He received his Ham Radio operator license in 1936 and was known worldwide as W7FPT talking to other amateur stations in 314 different countries. He also trained and educated many who were interested in becoming operators.
Jim and his wife of 65 years Rowena (Dolly) Krumbah were married in 1940. They had three children, Robert and Thomas and daughter JoAnn.
He began working for United Air Lines in 1939 in Walla Walla transferring to the Pendleton airport in 1940 and working there until his retirement 37 years ago.
Jim loved baseball. He was a founding member of Little league in Pendleton, and coached one of the original four teams. He attended may pro games but was always a Braves fan.
He simply enjoyed life. He loved his garden, fishing with the family, hunting at his family cabin, going to the coast, traveling abroad, as well as the United States. He loved to study any subject and did so every day of his life. Most of all he enjoyed his family especially holidays and family gatherings.
Jim will be missed by all but most of all by his family: Sister Merna Soper (Seattle), Sons Robert Bostwick and wife Jan (Pendleton) and Thomas Bostwick and wife Kandace (Pendleton) and daughter JoAnn McClendon and husband George (Pendleton). Grandchildren Jennifer Bostwick (Pendleton), Matt Bostwick and wife Donna(Pendleton), Joseph Bostwick(Pendleton), Katherine Bostwick(Portland), Kathi Zollman, (Bend), Kelli Rosenberg and husband Mark (Pendleton), Karen Kreft and husband John(Sisters), Kristi Kilgore (East Wenatchee). Great Grand Children Ryan Manning (Pendleton), Justine Manning (Pendleton), Olivia Manning (Toledo), Ann Marie Bostwick, Robert Bostwick, Jacob Bostwick(Pendleton), Alexandra Kilgore(Missoula), Kaitlynn Kilgore (East Wenatchee), Shaina Zollman (Bend).
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Dolly.
Graveside Celebration of Life for James will be conducted Monday, July 9, 2012 at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton at 10:00 AM Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop is in charge of arrangements.
