Donald Ellis ROSE W7JPH: Don was born January 30, 1923 in Turlock, CA to Bruce Ellis and Ada (Harris) Rose, the youngest of four sons. The family moved to Yakima in 1935 where Don's interests in aviation and electronics began. After graduating from Yakima High School in 1940, Don served in the Navy until 1945. In 1946, while also attending Yakima CC, he earned his Amateur Radio license (W7JPH) and his private pilot's license.
He attended WSC, majoring in Electrical Engineering. In 1951 he moved to Seattle where he met Marilyn Thurston. They married in May 1953. His career took them to many US locations. The family returned to the Seattle area in 1958, where Don worked in the television industry. Don, age 88, died on September 25, 2011, at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer's.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn, his daughter Lori Rose (Ed Leany) of Virgin, UT, his daughter Lisa (Gene) Middleton and his two grandchildren, Jake and Emmy of Snohomish, WA. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick (1972), his parents and his brothers, Dick, Bruce and Jack.
A Celebration of Don's Life will be held on Saturday, October 29th at 1p.m. at Snohomish Community Church, 13622 Dubuque Road, in Snohomish. Please wear casual clothes. In lieu of flowers... please consider the Alzheimer's Foundation, Evergreen Hospice, McAllister Museum of Aviation in Yakima or the Vic Clark Youth Incentive Fund of the ARRL Foundation.
