Word was received March 11 by Montana relatives that Adelbert John "Jack" Smith of Magalia, Calif., had died.
He was born April 12, 1923, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Adelbert "Dell" and Lucille Smith. He graduated from Sheridan High, attended the University of Montana, and served in the Army Signal Corps in Europe during World War II. After the war, he attended Montana State College and graduated from Utah State College in 1950, with a degree in electronics engineering.
Jack worked for the government, Boeing in Seattle and the Naval Weapons Systems Engineering Station in Oxnard, Calif.
He enjoyed ham radio, hiking, classical music, books and photography. He was fond of animals, and many a stray cat and dog found its way to his door.
Survivors include his sister, Delcine; nephews, Sig (Kathy), Dan (Denise), Matthew (Susan), and Joseph (Linda) Nottingham; five grandnieces; seven grandnephews; two great-great-nieces; an aunt; numerous cousins; and longtime friend, Cliff Neal of Magalia.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sheridan. Interment: Sheridan Cemetery with military honors.
