Halbert Thompson Cupps, passed peacefully at his Scottsdale home on February 14th surrounded by family at the young age of 92. Hal met and married Helen (Cook) Cupps while both were working in Germany 54 years ago. Hal's career with the Voice of America took him to Europe, North Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia and many U.S. locations. Hal retired from the VOA in 1973. Hal appeared before Senator McCarthy as a rebuttal witness for the U.S. State Department. He received a call from former Secretary of State Charles Schultz to thank him for his years of service to the U.S. Hal and Helen moved to Arizona where Hal found himself retired for more years than he'd actually worked! He was an avid ham radio operator, and Rotarian and eventually turned his interest to the personal computer while in his 80's. Together Hal and Helen have three children, Eugene (Kris), Lisa, and Cindy (Henry) Weissblatt of Boca Raton, FL, as well as Cynthia (Don) Bahnuik of Canada. He is preceded in death by his parents David and Laura, and sister Eleanor. He is survived by his wife, children and four grandchildren, Kendra, Brittany, Randy and Grayson. Hal would request that any donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society , which afflicted his sister, his daughter and so many others. Services will be held at Messingers Mortuary, Indian School in Scottsdale, on Monday, February 18 and 1p, with a final resting in Provo, Utah. W7LBD signing off. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Hospice of the Valley for their many services during Mr. Cupps illness.
