W7UG - James F. 'Jim' De Vries

Jim W7UG grew up in an amateur radio family, father Harry was W6PIX and mother Clara was W6PIY. Jim has been an amateur radio operator since 1953 starting as KN6EKN and later licensed K6EKN, K3NTI, W7LKT, W2HVQ, NJ6U, WU5X and then took advantage of the vanity call sign program to obtain W7UG when he moved to Oregon.

Jim participated in a four man IOTA DXpedition to Enewetak Island in the Marshalls (April 2001). The team consisted of Dave Forten V73UX, George Talbot V73GT, Tom Meier V73ZZ/K7ZZ and Jim W7UG. The team 18,000 QSO's. In February 2002 Jim operated the Club Station on Kwajalean as V73UG, making nearly 7,000 QSO's in a week all alone. Jim and Tom (K7ZZ) made a trip in October (2003) to Palau and Yap. Used Tom's call signs T88ZX and V63ZT for SSB/CW. Jim's call signs T88UG and V63UG for RTTY/PSK31. QSL direct to K7ZZ.

The home radio station at W7UG is: ICOM IC756ProII, Henry 2K Classic amplifier, Kachina 505DSP, KT36XA triband Yagi Uda beam at 60 feet,and a 135Ft G5RV antenna.

Jim works mostly DX on CW with a little RTTY and PSK.
